Job Title: Senior Sustainability Analyst

Job Description Overview:
The Senior Sustainability Analyst will lead and support EarthShift in a variety of consulting areas including: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA); Sustainability-Return on Investment (S-ROI)/Total Cost Assessment (TCA); critical review; life cycle inventory; carbon and water foot printing; supply chain optimization; eco-labeling; and general sustainability assessment, planning, and guidance. The Analyst will help our clients understand and communicate their environmental impacts, and make optimized decisions that reduce impacts without resulting in burden shifting.

The Senior Sustainability Analyst will be involved in project management, particularly as it relates to streamlining work flow and improving work quality and consistency. The Analyst will attend conferences with the dual purposes of keeping up to date with the methodologies and industry applications, as well as developing business for EarthShift. The Analyst will also be expected to keep abreast of and participate in developments in various sustainability assessment methodologies. The successful candidate is invited to participate in other areas of EarthShift business (e.g. training and software). The ideal candidate is a big picture thinker with the ability to identify inconsistencies in data and prose, and to evaluate sustainability issues from a business vantage point focused on innovation and value.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performing LCAs, including:
    • Gathering life cycle inventory data through literature research and client sources
    • Utilizing various software tools to model products and interpret results
    • Authoring LCA reports and other project deliverables per ISO14040 and 14044 standards
    • Serving as the technical lead and support of junior analysts
    • Conducting report review meetings for clients and providing product analysis based on LCA results
  • Performing S-ROIs/TCAs
  • Conducting critical reviews of LCA reports
  • Performing other life cycle type requests using appropriate tools
  • Conducting carbon and water footprints/inventories
  • Developing Product Category Rules and Environmental Product Declarations
  • Keeping abreast of changes in the LCA field
  • Contributing to the development of proposals and associated marketing materials
  • Working effectively both as an individual and as part of a team

Candidate Requirements:

  • Three to five years of work experience in sustainability and/or life cycle assessment; preferably in an industrial setting or as a consultant
  • Master’s degree in physical sciences, environmental science, or engineering
  • Experience with LCA and carbon/water foot printing software
  • Solid understanding of LCA and GHG principles and methodology
  • Solid understanding of major LCI databases and LCIA methods
  • Solid understanding of relevant ISO standards
  • Familiarity with project management best practices
  • Willingness to travel as necessary for training, client engagements, and conferences
  • Positive attitude and self-motivated
  • Strong writing, analytical, and presentation skills

EarthShift has offices in Huntington, Vermont and Kittery, Maine. The position will require some initial training and presence in Vermont and/or Maine, but the ultimate location of this position is at the discretion of the applicant, but in North America.
